Kitchen Design Sydney

Good kitchen design is the part you don't notice once you're living in the room — the bench is where you need it, the bin is by the prep zone, and everything has its place — and we work it all out on paper before a single cabinet is built.

Kitchen design is the planning that turns a room and a rough brief into a buildable kitchen. H&R Kitchens designs kitchens for homes across Sydney, working through layout, cabinetry, storage, appliance placement, benchtops, splashbacks and the way you move between sink, cooktop and fridge — and because we design, build and install in-house, every choice is checked against what we can actually make.

    How we plan the kitchen

We start with how you actually cook and live — who uses the kitchen, where things get stored, what frustrates you about the current one. From there we work up a layout and storage plan around the room's real dimensions, windows and services, so the design solves problems rather than just looking good on a render.

  2. 02

Design that's connected to the build

Because the same team designs, builds and installs, the plan is tested against what we can actually make as it's drawn. Cabinet widths, appliance gaps, panel returns and awkward corners get sorted on paper, which means fewer surprises on install day and a plan that holds up once the cabinetry goes in.

  3. 03

    Materials and finishes

Design is where the look gets decided, so we talk through the choices that set the tone: shaker, flat-panel or handleless doors; timber, two-pack or laminate finishes; natural-stone or porcelain benchtops; and tile, glass or stone splashbacks. We also plan soft-close hardware and handles in brushed nickel, matte black or integrated profiles so the finish reads as one considered scheme.

  4. 04

What shapes the cost of kitchen design

The main drivers are the size and complexity of the kitchen, how many layout options you want explored, and whether the design has to reroute plumbing, gas or electrical. Detailed cabinetry, full appliance integration and higher-end materials add to the planning too. We talk these trade-offs through early so the design — and the kitchen it leads to — matches what you actually want and how you want to spend.

  5. 05

    Kitchen design across Sydney

We design kitchens for homes right across Sydney, from compact galley layouts in older terraces to large open-plan kitchens with islands and butler's pantries. Wherever you are, the design work feeds straight into our own cabinetry and installation, so the plan you sign off on is the kitchen we build.

Good to know

Kitchen Design questions

The questions we hear most often, kept close to the service so the brief, scope and next step stay clear before you get in touch.

What does a kitchen designer actually do?

A kitchen designer turns your room and brief into a buildable plan — working out the layout, cabinetry, storage, appliance placement and finishes. We plan how you move between sink, cooktop and fridge so the kitchen works day to day, then detail it so it can be built accurately.

Do I need a kitchen design before a renovation?

Yes — the design is what the renovation is built from. Settling the layout, storage and materials on paper first means fewer changes mid-build and a quote that matches the real kitchen. We can run the design as its own step or roll it into a full renovation.

How does the work triangle affect my kitchen layout?

The work triangle is the path between your sink, cooktop and fridge — the three spots you move between most. We plan the layout so that path stays short and clear, with prep space beside the cooktop and the bin near the sink, so the kitchen feels easy rather than cramped.

Can you design and build the kitchen, or just the design?

We can do both. The design is connected to our own cabinetry and installation, so it carries straight through to a finished kitchen without the detail getting lost in a handover. We can also design a kitchen to a clear, buildable standard if that's all you need.

How do you decide on benchtops and splashbacks during design?

We weigh look, durability and budget against how you use the kitchen — porcelain or sintered stone for everyday hard-wearing benchtops, natural stone for a higher-end finish, and tile, glass or stone splashbacks to suit. Settling these in the design stage keeps the whole scheme consistent.

Which parts of Sydney do you design kitchens for?

We design kitchens for homes right across Sydney, from small terrace kitchens to large open-plan spaces. Send your suburb with your enquiry and we'll happily confirm the detail.

Client feedback

Homeowners on working with H&R Kitchens.

From the first measure-up to the final install, the team were easy to deal with and very clear about what was happening. They gave helpful advice without pushing us into anything, and the kitchen turned out better than we had pictured.
Sophie and Mark T.★★★★★September 2025
Our old kitchen was awkward and didn't have enough storage. H&R Kitchens came up with a layout that made much better use of the space, and the workmanship is excellent. Everything feels sturdy, well fitted, and built to last.
Anthony P.★★★★★November 2025
What stood out most was the communication. We always knew when trades were coming, what stage the job was at, and what decisions we needed to make. The kitchen looks beautiful, but it's also really practical for everyday family use.
