Benchtops

Kitchen Benchtops Sydney

A benchtop is the surface you touch every day, so it has to look right and work hard at the same time — and we plan, fabricate and install it so it sits cleanly against your cabinetry, splashback and appliances.

Your benchtop sets the tone of the whole kitchen and takes the most wear, so it has to be both handsome and hard-wearing. H&R Kitchens supplies and installs kitchen benchtops for homes across Sydney — natural stone, porcelain, laminate and timber, including island and waterfall benchtops, replacement surfaces, edge profiles, sink and cooktop cut-outs and tidy joins — all measured, fabricated and fitted in-house against your cabinetry.

  1. 01

How we plan and measure your benchtop

We start from the cabinetry and the way you use the kitchen, then measure up the benchtop once the cabinets are level and set. Those measurements drive the overhangs, the cut-out positions for your sink and cooktop, and where any join falls, so the finished surface lines up with the splashback and the drawers below it.

  2. 02

    Fabrication and installation in-house

We fabricate and install benchtops with our own team rather than hand the surface to a third party, which keeps the edges, joins and cut-outs matched to the rest of the kitchen. Waterfall ends are mitred so the pattern runs down the side of the island, and joins are placed where they read least, then sealed and finished on site.

  3. 03

    Materials and finishes

We work in porcelain and sintered stone for a consistent, low-maintenance surface, natural stone such as marble and granite where you want movement and character, plus laminate and solid timber where they suit the room and the budget. Edge profiles range from a square modern edge to bevelled, pencil-round and bullnose, and finishes can be polished, honed or matt to sit with your cabinetry colour and splashback.

  4. 04

What shapes the cost of kitchen benchtops

The biggest cost drivers are the material you choose (laminate, timber, natural stone or porcelain), the total run and number of slabs, and how much fabrication the design needs — waterfall ends, mitred joins, drainer grooves and the number of cut-outs all add work. Whether you are replacing a benchtop on existing cabinetry or fitting one as part of a new kitchen also matters, and we talk these trade-offs through early so the quote matches the surface you actually want.

Kitchen Benchtops questions

The questions we hear most often, kept close to the service so the brief, scope and next step stay clear before you get in touch.

What is the best benchtop material for a Sydney kitchen?

It depends on how you use the kitchen. Porcelain and sintered stone are the hard-wearing all-rounders for a consistent look and low upkeep, natural stone like marble adds real character but wants a little more care, and laminate or timber suit tighter budgets or a warmer feel. Engineered or quartz stone has been banned in Australia since 1 July 2024, so it is no longer an option. We help you weigh these up against your cabinetry and how the kitchen gets used.

Can I still get an engineered or quartz stone benchtop in Australia?

No. Engineered, reconstituted and quartz stone have been banned in Australia since 1 July 2024 — they can no longer be made, supplied or installed, because cutting them releases harmful silica dust. For a stone look we fit natural stone such as granite or marble, or porcelain and sintered stone, which are hard, low-maintenance and sit outside the ban. An engineered-stone benchtop already installed in your home is safe to keep and use; the risk only comes from cutting or grinding it.

Can you replace just the benchtop without redoing the whole kitchen?

Yes. If your cabinetry is sound and level, we can measure up, fabricate and fit a replacement benchtop over the existing cabinets, including new cut-outs for the sink and cooktop. We check the carcasses first so the new surface has a solid, even base to sit on.

What is a waterfall benchtop and does it cost more?

A waterfall benchtop runs the same surface down the side of an island to the floor, with a mitred join at the corner so the pattern continues. It uses more material and extra fabrication for the mitre, so it does add to the cost — we price it as part of the overall quote.

How are benchtop joins and cut-outs handled?

We measure up the benchtop on site, then place any join where it reads least and matches the pattern as closely as the material allows. Cut-outs for the sink, taps and cooktop are set out from those measurements so they line up with the cabinetry and plumbing below.

Which parts of Sydney do you install kitchen benchtops in?

We supply and install kitchen benchtops for homes right across Sydney. Send your suburb with your enquiry and we will happily confirm the detail and arrange a measure.

H&R Kitchens made the whole renovation feel a lot less stressful than we expected. They listened to what we wanted, helped us make practical choices, and kept us updated the whole way through. The finished kitchen feels modern but still really suits our home.
